Vampires Beware! – The Power of Garlic in the Local Eatery
Vampires Beware! – The Power of Garlic in the Local Eatery
While garlic used to be somewhat of a rarity in the local restaurant scene, these days this popular spice is finding its way into more and more dishes, and many of the best known and well respected chefs from around the world are including garlic in their special dishes. There are many reasons for the increasing popularity of garlic, including the fact that garlic is potent, powerful and healthy as well. While many diners claim not to like garlic, some of the innovative ways modern chefs use the spice can make it palatable to even the most garlic-phobic gourmet.
One of the most important reasons garlic has made its way into so many restaurant dishes is the increasing reputation of garlic as a health food. Garlic has been found to have a number of important health benefits, and additional studies of the healthy effects of garlic are still underway.
Among the many potential benefits of garlic currently being studied are its ability to lower cholesterol, protect the heart and perhaps even boost the memory. It is the volatile and pungent essential oils within garlic that are thought to account for the health benefits, and these essential oils are definitely what gives garlic its unique and pungent aroma.
In addition to its unique potential health benefits, garlic is a delicious addition to a number of popular foods, including a variety of meats and even salads. As many of the best chefs in the world continue to experiment with garlic and other pungent spices, the trend will continue to trickle down, first to the high end and midrange restaurants and finally to the small town casual eatery. Trends in foods can be notoriously short lived, and notoriously difficult to predict as well, but the trend of using garlic in a variety of different ways appears to be here to stay.
Garlic has enjoyed particular success as an ingredient in a number of chicken and other poultry dishes, and as health conscious consumers continue to look for lower fat sources of protein, dishes like garlic chicken and garlic rubbed game hen are likely to continue their great success in restaurants around the world. Garlic is also a popular ingredient in a number of pork and beef dishes, and the health benefits of garlic may even be able to mitigate some of the issues associated with red meat dishes. No matter how you personally feel about garlic, there is no denying the power of this extraordinary spice, both in the restaurant industry and in the home kitchen.
